What a start to the second part of the Autumn term! Last week really was a demonstration and celebration of our British and Birches values!
On Monday, whilst the children enjoyed an extra day at home, staff joined colleagues from St Nicholas First School and Codsall Middle School to take part in some exciting professional development and training.
It was lovely to welcome the children back to school on Tuesday, keen to get back into the swing of things. At lunchtime on that day the children enjoyed a delicious bonfire themed lunch.
Our Remembrance Day learning was kick started on Wednesday with a workshop led by a visiting WWII soldier who taught the children about life in the trenches. The children really enjoyed their workshops and certainly learnt a lot.
Our football team represented us well at Codsall High School on Thursday, playing against a very strong team from St Chads. Well done to all of our players for a strong team effort. Thank you to Miss Hulme for organising the team and to parents for their support of the event.
The week ended with our superb World War day to mark the 100 year anniversary of the end of WWI. I was so proud of our whole school community on this special day of remembrance. Thank you once again to all of the staff for their organisation, preparation and enthusiasm for the day as well as to parents for their support in providing costumes for the children! They all looked fantastic!!
This week we have some final remembrance activities planned – as a whole school we will be creating our own poppy field and on Wednesday Y2 will be visiting the war memorial in Bilbrook to lay a wreath on behalf of the school.
We will also be running our first ever First Aid courses for parents on Monday and Friday this week for those who have signed up. Plans are well under way for our PFA Christmas event – letters will be coming home this week so please look out for them in bags. We will end the week with the children being invited to wear own clothes, including something spotty for a donation to the Children in Need appeal. Friday will also see the start of our new Spanish club which I’m sure the children will enjoy!
Have a lovely week all!
